چکیده

ammonia (nh3) and nitrite (no2) toxic chemicals which resulted from fish culture, especially in intensive fish culture systems. to evaluate the efficiency of green algae scenedesmus quadricauda in ammonia and nitrite removal from intensive fish farm effluent and also its application as suitable culture medium for s. quadricauda , effluent water samples were collected from rainbow trout farm. six different treatments including diluted effluent with and without bbm, raw effluent with and without bbm, and concentrated effluent with and without bbm were prepared from fish farm effluent as culture medium for s. quadricauda. results showed that s. quadricauda could growth and reproduce well in examined treatments of fish farm effluent and ammonia and nitrite rates decreased in high levels (approximately 90 %).the maximum obtained biomass (0.99 g/l), number of algal cell (90.4 x 105 cell/ml), chlorophyll a (2.89 mg/l), removal percentage of ammonia (89.57 %) and nitrite (89.53 %) were obtained in diluted effluent with bbm (l+bbm).on the base of results of this research it seems that this algae could be used for ammonia and nitrite removal as well as algal biomass production for treatment of fish farm effluent before entering to natural environment. in addition, fish farm effluent could be used as suitable medium for algal mass culture.

Effect of indigo dye effluent on the growth, biomass production and phenotypic plasticity of Scenedesmus quadricauda (Chlorococcales).

The effect of indigo dye effluent on the freshwater microalga Scenedesmus quadricauda ABU12 was investigated under controlled laboratory conditions. The microalga was exposed to different concentrations of the effluent obtained by diluting the dye effluent from 100 to 175 times in bold basal medium (BBM). The growth rate of the microalga decreased as indigo dye effluent concentration increased ...

Phosphate and nitrate removal from municipal wastewater by algae Scenedesmus obliquus cultivation and production of algal biomass

Nitrate and phosphate are abundant in urban wastewater. We evaluated the efficiency of nitrate and phosphate removal from wastewater by Scenedesmus obliquus and its use as a medium for Scenedesmus obliquus. Samples were collected from the effluent of central wastewater treatment in Gorgan. This experiment was done by 3 treatments and 6 replications that effluent with 100%, 50% and 0% were dilut...

Ammonia removal from anaerobic digestion effluent of livestock waste using green alga Scenedesmus sp.

The green alga Scenedesmus was investigated for its ability to remove nitrogen from anaerobic digestion effluent possessing high ammonium content and alkalinity in addition to its growth characteristics. Nitrate and ammonium were indistinguishable as a nitrogen source when the ammonium concentration was at normal cultivation levels. Ammonium up to 100ppm NH(4)-N did not inhibit cell growth, but...

The effects of operating factors on the removal of total ammonia nitrogen and florfenicol antibiotic from synthetic trout fish farm wastewater through nanofiltration

An aquaculture system can be a potentially significant source of antibacterial compounds and ammonia in an aquatic environment. In this study, the removal of total ammonia nitrogen and florfenicol antibiotic from synthetic aqueous wastewater was assessed by applying a commercial TFC (thin film composite) polyamide nanofilter. The effects of pH (6.5-8.5), pressure (4-10 bar), concentration of to...

Scenedesmus dimorphus biofilm: Photoefficiency and biomass production under intermittent lighting

This study investigated the effect of intermittent lighting on the growth performances of a Scenedesmus dimorphus biofilm. Flashing light effect (FLE) is common in traditional suspended cultures of microalgae; yet, publications about this phenomenon, in the context of biofilm cultivation, are scarce. In this work we demonstrate that, thanks to intermittent illumination, it is possible for attac...

Efficiency of Ammonia and Phosphorus Removal from a Colombian Agroindustrial Wastewater by the Microalgae Chlorella Vulgaris and Scenedesmus Dimorphus

The ammonia and phosphorus removal efficiencies of the microalgae Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus dimorphus, during biotreatment of secondary effluent from an agroindustrial wastewater of a dairy industry and pig farming, were evaluated. The microalgae were isolated from a wastewater stabilization pond near Santafé de Bogota, Colombia. Batch cultures were made using both species in 4-l cylin...
